My graphic novel in progress Eternal-GIO

Postby gio on Fri Jan 09, 2009 11:48 am

Sup everybody! My name's Gio :) Hey Lilli! Sorry it took so long to finally post anything. Been with my girlfriend for 2 weeks and none of my stuff was there that I saved before my Tablet PC's harddrive was destroyed. ( yeah that really sucked lol) But at least I was able to save Session 3 and up of Eternal's original completed files so it's all good :) I was down but wasn't completely out. I've been sketching the next 19 pages of Session 5. Which so far amounts to about 33 pages for Session 5. The 3 way fight scene starts at page 17 and ends at 31 :) I've been applying what I've learned from Burne HOggarth's Dynamic Anatomy book ( which I really recommend for anyone here trying to draw fighting poses at every single possible angle :)) Here's the next 19 page sketches :

And here's a link to where my finished pages I have so far can be read on Drunk Duck :) :

Hey~ Good to see you here!
I say, girlfriend first. haha, only because I hope my bf do the same.
Awesome sketches I have to tell you! Did you use a camera to make the images? Some parts looks really gray and the paper seems wrinkled.
I really like the illustration on the few larger images, did you use ink for the outline, then process the quality with computer? I have an obsession with lines.

I see your the type that goes for action. I can hardly see whats going on because there were so many grays and wrinkles, but other then that, it looks quite interesting because of your angles.

@ Legend: Yeah I love drawing action. I'm still not very fast at drawing aciion though, due to trying to come up with the most dynamic camera angles, pose and perspective. I think coming up with all that takes me the longest. I sit for a long time just staring at a blank space trying to envision the best possible way to depict the action. It's the most rewarding yet most aggravating part of making a graphic novel lol Really bitter sweet. lol

@ ShiningMonk_e- Yeah I am :) I'm from Steven Cummings forum. I think I've been getting advice for Eternal from Steven since last MArch when I first met him at Momocon and he sat down with me and looked at the origimal pages of Session 3. That's when I decided to change alot of things about the way I do Eternal. THanks to him I get pages done faster.

@ Lilli- Hey Lilli! :) Yeah I'm glad you feel that way about relationships :) I'm really trying to make me and Rina work. She's an amaziong woman. The kindest, gentlest most loving woman I've ever been with. :) She really is my better half lol She always helps me see the bright side in everything. And I really need that sometimes :)

As for the inked pages, it's what I learned from Steven CUmmings the first time I met him and his wife Megumi. He pencils the pages to loook like they do when they are inked, and Megumi scans them into Photoshop and cleans them up there. :) I downloaded a video tutorial on how to do it and I learned you can use the Dodge and Burn tool to make the lines darker and wipe away unwanted grey smudgess leaving the black lines untouched :) Very time saving. Sure beats penciling an entire pagee and going over it with Ink pens like I used to do lol. :)

I'm taking these rough sketches ( they are drawn in 4 quadrants of an 8 and a half by 11 space each page) printing each page out in 180x270 mm size and penciling them on my lightbox. Then I clean them up on Photoshop and BLAMO nicely crisp inked pages ready for action lol :D

Btw Lilli. I love the new background you have on this forum! I looks so cool :)

Just an update. Yeah I've only been able to pencil 2 more pages and still trying to finish this CG of Ceera from my graphic novel Eternal. Ceera's on page page 14 down below in the Limo in the Limo Driver outfit. Added some long fingernails in the CG. Yeah she's not going to have clothes on, but I'm going to add some flames spiralling from the center and out through her hands out towards the screen. Not sure if the shading right on the arm. Might screw around with it alittle more to see what's rilly going on lol I guess the reason it's taking awhile to get stuff done is becuase I'm trying to get used to this new tablet pc. It has Vista on it. Nuff said lol Plus I'm re-installing all my old programs I used to use. Photoshop CS2, Painter X, Illustrator CS2 and Deleter Comicworks. So I finally have all that and I'm ready to roll. Well, that's all for now. Peace :)-GIO

For some reason I can't upload this on the site as a finished page on the art gallery here. I tried twice and twice it's failed. So I guess I'll just put it here:

Finished this one today. took me awhle to cleanup my pencils on this, due to my scanner apicking up every single little detail on the page including the fibers of the page. Oh well. This is page 18 of Session 5. I have 4 others to cleanup tone and letter. Not much dialogue from here on. from page 16 to 32 it's one big overthetop fight scene. ( someone's leg gets dislocated. and someone's face gets crushed into the ground. And it's pretty exaggerated lol) I'll keepyou guy updated. Peace :)
